The following letter to the editor was published in the Lynnfield Villager on Wednesday, March 11.

To the Editor,

I am writing in strong support of my fellow Library Trustee, Joe Gallagher, as he runs for the Lynnfield Select Board.

I have had the privilege of serving alongside Joe on the Lynnfield Library Board of Trustees, where he currently serves and has previously held the role of Chair. In that role, I have seen firsthand the leadership, thoughtfulness, and integrity he brings to public service. Joe does not seek recognition; he seeks results, and he puts in the effort to achieve them.

As Chair of the Trustees, Joe has been instrumental in advocating for our Library and for the residents who rely on it. He personally created clear, accessible communication materials about the New Library and Renovation project so that residents could understand both the vision, as well as the financial implications. He knew people would want information, and he established weekly volunteer meetings to track progress, ask hard questions, and ensure accountability. That level of transparency and hands-on oversight matters, especially when taxpayer dollars are involved.

Joe also brings strong planning and project management skills to everything he does. Drawing on his professional background managing multiple concurrent projects, overseeing budgets, leading teams of project managers, and maintaining client relationships, he helped develop a monthly budget reporting process for the Library. This has allowed the Trustees to better understand funding, expenses, and long-term commitments. In a time when our town is facing difficult conversations around overrides and budget shortfalls, that kind of fiscal clarity is essential.

Beyond town government, Joe is deeply invested in our schools. As the father of three daughters in the Lynnfield Public Schools (one at Summer Street School (Kindergarten), one at Summer Street School (4th grade), and one at Lynnfield Middle School (7th grade)), Joe understands firsthand the importance of strong educational leadership and responsible budgeting. He has volunteered on the Summer Street School PTO as Director of Communications and consistently shows up for our students and teachers. As a former college professor myself, I deeply appreciate parents who are invested, informed, and collaborative. I can honestly say that Joe embodies those qualities.

He is also a stay-at-home dad of three girls, which means his commitment to Lynnfield is not abstract: It is personal. His volunteerism, his advocacy, and his time are dedicated to improving the town his children are growing up in. He is striving to improve Lynnfield's future.

After 13 years of the same representation on the Select Board, I believe Lynnfield would benefit from a fresh perspective. Our town deserves leadership that prioritizes transparency around funding sources, clearer communication about budget commitments, and thoughtful long-term planning for the future of Lynnfield. The future of Lynnfield isn’t something we inherit; it’s something we intentionally invest in. Joe has demonstrated through his service on the Library Board that he is willing to ask questions, provide clarity, and make decisions grounded in what is best for the broader community.

This is a pivotal moment for Lynnfield. We need leaders who are collaborative, fiscally responsible, and forward-thinking. I believe Joe is exactly that leader.

I wholeheartedly encourage residents to support him for the Select Board.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Slate

Lynnfield Library Trustee
